FANUC FA America had relied on an existing legacy IT system for all their operational and business processing when the company made the decision to transition to Oracle E-Business Suite version 11.5.10 in 2007. Under the legacy system, the company’s end users had access to hundreds of custom reports which were developed over the past two decades. They relied heavily on the IT department’s development strength to custom build the necessary business reports to satisfy both operational and executive demand. FANUC’s situation changed dramatically after the Oracle implementation.
“When we first went live with Oracle, we had some challenging issues with data, along with ad hoc reporting and analytic capabilities,” said Zach Heuer, General Manager, Information Technology Division at FANUC FA America. “We literally had to start over when it came to accessing our data in Oracle. We couldn’t even report on simple things you’d typically take for granted with a package solution.”
FANUC strategized on a new reporting approach and explored different BI solutions. The critical requirement was access to data and the ability to pull data out of Oracle for ad hoc query purposes.
FANUC did plenty of due diligence before choosing Noetix. The process included an on-site visit to a Noetix customer which housed a large and complex Oracle environment similar to their own in order to better understand if this particular BI reporting solution would be an appropriate fit. After that visit, Heuer and the FANUC FA America General Management team decided that if they were able to access just 70 percent of the amount of data they saw at the Noetix customer site visit, they would be delighted.
FANUC purchased Noetix Platform, Noetix Search, and more than 20 NoetixViews modules to access information within its 40+ Oracle E-Business Suite modules.
From the start, Noetix user adoption at FANUC FA America was very high. Reporting from Oracle had been so challenging since go live with Oracle E-Business Suite that user adoption was a key concern. End users completely relied on IT to create reports for them, and with a limited number of resources to dedicate for reporting the IT team was unable to timely satisfy user demand.
“The ease of use of the tool greatly increased adoption,” said Heuer. “I expected to hear, ‘Oh, now I have to learn another new and complex tool – this is too much of a challenge. Why doesn’t IT just take care of it?’ Instead, I heard, ‘Wow, I went through the Noetix class and I can’t believe how easy it is to access my data!’.”
Heuer added, “The ability for our users to access cross-functional data easily and securely has empowered our teams to become more proactive and focus on continuous improvement.”
Today, many end users representing management from all parts of the FANUC FA America business are using Noetix to independently access the data they require to create 20 to 30 new reports each month. The burden on IT to create custom reports has been relieved and the IT personnel previously dedicated to developing reports on a full time basis has been re-focused on other areas providing a higher level of value to the business.
“We completed our implementation two months ago and we are amazed to see users creating so many quality reports and being so self-sufficient this quickly,” said Heuer.
Company executives have reported back to Heuer that they are seeing huge benefits with the Noetix solution and end users report they are able to make more informed decisions. Dedicated to providing the best customer service, FANUC FA America originally targeted key areas around response, availability, delivery, and complete customer satisfaction. With the help of Noetix they have already achieved success in improving their internal processes and ultimately increasing their ability to serve customers.
“From an executive standpoint, it’s great to be able to see this level of communication and feedback finally coming back into our meetings,” said Heuer. “We knew we needed to upgrade our IT system to improve operational and report processing. Now that we’ve rectified that situation, the improved usability of data intelligence has taken our business strategy and planning to a new level.”
